教育学家陶行知先生说过:“要解放孩子的头脑、双手、脚、空间、时间,使他们充分得到自由的生活,从自由的生活中得到真正的教育。”一节好课应该能让学生主动参与,使学生要成为课堂的主体。只有让学生的多种感官全方位地参与学习,才能调动他们的学习积极性,使课堂焕发出生命的活力,而课前两分钟就对英语教学起了很好的辅助作用。

一、英语课前两分钟的重要作用和意义

课前两分钟是课堂教学的一个重要铺垫,这种简单的活动尽管只占很少时间,但对渲染课堂气氛、调动和激发学生学习英语的积极性和创造性、及时复习和巩固课堂学习内容起着不可低估的作用。它可以促使不愿开口说英语的学生开口,让愿意开口的学生得到锻炼和表现的机会。

(一)让学生在准备中提升英语能力

学生的充分准备是做好课前两分钟活动的前提,无论何种形式,学生都需要挑选材料、梳理知识进行精心准备。在准备过程中,学生的分析问题和解决问题的能力逐步得到提高,他们运用自己的知识来准备, 这也是學生提升综合能力的好机会。

(二)让学生在实践中收获知识

通过多种形式,学生将所学知识展示出来,既锻炼了他们的自信、沉着和应变等能力,还提高了他们的口语水平,同时其他学生的听力和口语能力也得到了提高。因此,在两分钟的时间里,学生便以一种很自然的方式收获了知识。

(三)让学生在期待中走入课堂

成功而精彩的课前两分钟,可以使学生精神饱满、情绪高昂,更加积极地参与课堂教学活动,大大提高了课堂效果。形式多样的活动,会让学生每天都有所期待,学生盼望新鲜内容的同时拉开了英语课的序幕。

二、课前两分钟的形式和内容

(一)值日报告或自由演讲(Duty report or free talk)

这是教师经常采用的一种方法,根据老师的要求做值日报告或自由演讲,很短的时间,只要坚持,日积月累,就可以收到效果。在这个活动中,学生们自由发挥,个性释放,英语魅力尽显无遗。慢慢的,学生的兴趣浓厚了,听、说能力提高了,英语教学也越来越轻松了。

(二)英文电影配音 (Movie show)

学生在课堂之外挑选一部自己喜欢的电影,并从中选出自己喜欢的片段配音。在活动过程中,学生们为了达到最佳效果,反复训练,不论是英语的发音,还是表演的情感都得到了锻炼。同时,学生们也学习到了西方的文化,了解了西方人的生活。

(三)英文报中的新闻播报 (News)

每周学生要阅读一次《21世纪报》,报中有学生感兴趣的新闻趣事,也可以通过PPT的形式为班级同学讲解。如报中出现了Yoga animals 这篇文章,学生做了PPT,展示了小的动物们可爱的瑜伽造型,同学们感到好奇和欣喜,也学习了英语知识。

(四)英文幽默小故事 (Stories)

教师应鼓励学生多读课外读物,并收集幽默小故事,通过讲故事,学生们可以学习更多的课外词汇,也树立了他们学习的自信心。

(五)英文演讲(Speech)

教师可以开展英文演讲活动,让学生表述自己对事物的看法和观点。同时教师也可以培养学生的自信心和语言组织能力。要让学生开阔知识面,首先要让他们广泛学习,在课外学习中增长见识,拓宽知识面、积累知识。经过长期的潜移默化的积累,学生自然“见多识广”。

(六)改编课本小对话(Short conversations)

学生表演课前已编排好的短剧,剧情可依照已学过的课文的情景,也可自己创设情境,但是台词必需要运用已学过的。这样,学生既复习了旧课,加深了对新学内容的理解,他们又在笑声中巩固知识,心情愉快地进入新的学习内容。

(七)课文接龙背 (About article)

通过接龙背的形式对已经学过的文章进行检查,要求学生课下自主复习所学内容。在活动中,学生的自主学习能力得到了提升,也锻炼了他们的应变能力。

(八)愉快作文(About writing)

以上是我在课前2分钟所设计的活动,接下来我要和大家交流的是近期我在课前2分钟设计的一种活动,就是把每个单元中的重点句以本单元的主要话题为主线串在一起,让学生在课前2分钟读文章,开始是齐读,之后可以是自己读、老师指名学生读,并纠正他们的发音等。前两节课的课前2分钟就是让学生读,练口语,找语感。后两节课学生将本单元的主要语法点学得差不多,所以慢慢地也就理解了短文中句子的意思,到本单元最后一节课的时候,他们已基本能将文章背诵出来,不但练了口语、口头作文,也背过了重点句。

教师经常会发现不少班级从预备铃声到正式上课铃声之间的两分钟全花在整顿纪律或等待学生进教室上,这时间浪费了很是可惜。课前两分钟对一节课来说虽短但非常重要。如果课前的两分钟能得以充分利用,学生注意力的弦被拉紧了,接下去的四十五分钟的内容在教师的主导下就会得心应手了。

二、方法的尝试

针对这种状况,笔者曾在自己所任教的班级进行尝试,利用NSEFC(New Senior English For China)教材贴近学生生活、涉及面广、图文并茂、形式多样的特点来激发学生,在对学生的任务上做出明确的布置。主要采用下列几种方法。

(一)演讲

(1)自选话题

由于学生从初中开始就经常进行演讲活动,为了让学生更好地适应从初中到高中的转变,在高一的第一个月进行适应性地过渡,学生可以自由选择自己所喜爱的话题进行演讲,这是一个需要独立完成的任务。每次上课轮到一位学生作两分钟的oral presentation,整个过程中,教师作为观察者、评测者,不作任何评价,对于学生的典型性错误可以在他们演讲完后再加以指出。因为在整个过程中,参与的都是学生,他们选择的话题大多是同龄人中非常感兴趣的,使得每个人只要愿意开口,都能够有话可说,学生逐步放开羞涩,放大胆子开口表达。这样的做法为他们进入高级阶段的口语训练和学习打好了扎实的基础。

(2)规定话题

在NSEFC每一单元的教学过程中,把该单元的主题是作为课前演讲的内容。话题的操作是由五人一小组完成的,一单元的每节课前两分钟要求不同组别的代表上讲台演讲,并且是全班每位学生依次轮流进行。

(二)WORD TREE

在课前老师将一些重点词汇写在黑板上,一上课就叫几名学生上黑板去写出他所联想到的单词或短语。教师就可以给学生一些想要讲的重点词汇,如给学生believe consequent possess 等单词,并且黑板上可以画出图形来让学生上讲台填写,为每天可以轻松地上来秀,学生会自主地去准备一些与本单元词汇有关的知识点。

在上讲台的学生写得不够理想的时候,其他学生可以再上来补充,整个班级气氛非常紧张,注意力高度集中,课堂效果很不错,这些词汇的落实情况可以在擦了黑板后立即检测,学生掌握得较理想,基本都能记住并能正确运用。

(三)词汇接龙游戏

在学完一个单元时,教师可以安排学生将一单元所学的新单词以接龙形式在黑板上轮流地拼写出来,以达到复习巩固。现以Book 6 Unit 1为例:第一词由老师给出,如(1)realistic-civilization-nowadays-sculpture-exhibition;(2)belief-focus-scores of-flesh;(3)consequent-tip-predict;或者让学生说出首字母相同的单词。如老师给学生一个a字母,学生再接着说出以a开头的单词,如abstract, aim, aggressive, avenue, attempt等。只要将学生的表现欲望激发出来,学生会很主动地的投入到课堂中来,课堂效率的进步就十分明显。

(四)故事演绎

将本节课的重要单词或短语列在幻灯上,并且给出一个话题,如A Happy Day 等等接近学生生活的话题,让全班学生根据前一位学生的句子接着往下编,要求前后文连贯并且变幻句型,有时候学生编的故事会很感人,他们自己也乐在其中。这样做不仅提高了学生对英语的学习兴趣,而且也提高了他们的英语综合水平。

(五)组词成句

具体任务是:一组在纸上写上与本单元有关的动词,一组写上名词,一组写上形容词。小组成员人人开动脑筋,尽可能多地将相关词语说出来写上去。第二天一上课,各组派代表写在黑板上,然后大家一起对三组的词语进行串联,并添加上主语和适当的连接词,黑板上的词语全部用上后,就是一个较完整的活动过程。

(六)口头测试

因为英语口语教学本身很灵活,因此英语口头测试的方法也有多种形式。由于学生基础并不理想,因此笔者在课前两分钟常用的方法全是较简单的、符合本校学生的做法,主要有以下几种:流利地读出新单词、朗读课文、就所给的范文背诵情况等等。对学生的错误做一定量的规定,否则要接受其它补救措施,因此学生在准备时大多非常认真的,态度很积极。

(七)才艺表演

才艺表演是针对上一节中表现不够理想的学生的“惩罚”,他们可以表现给大家他们特长的一面,比如善于唱歌的学生,可以根据一些歌的曲调,将我们本单元所学的重要内容替换进去翻唱;有些书法好的同学可以将所学的重点词汇写到黑板上让老师与其他同学欣赏一下。有些有画画特长的同学可以将课文内容理解后用画来表达,第二天带来给全班同学们欣赏。这种做法是很轻松,主要是让学生去落实基础内容,并且能与他们的特长相结合向同学们展出他们优秀的一面,从而提高他们对英语学习的兴趣,旨在培养英语薄弱学生的兴趣以及树立他们的自信心。

三、反馈方式

每次“课前两分钟”后,及时进行反馈。通过一两句的评价或一两个提问,既可能对演讲者或表演者表示肯定,也可以促使全班同学积极参与。反馈方式有下列七种:

1.由演讲者或表演者就演讲内容提问全班同学;

2.由教师就演讲或表演内容提问全班同学;

3.由全班同学就演讲或表演内容相互提问;

4.由全班同学就演讲或表演内容提问演讲者;

5.由教师就演讲或表演内容提问演讲者;

6.由教师对演讲或表演等活动进行评价;

7.由全班同学对演讲或表演等活动进行评价。

四、试行情况

学生对课前两分钟活动采取的改进措施持欢迎态度。首先,每位学生轮流上讲台讲的机会明显增多,演讲或表演的质量有所提高;其次,在学生兴趣上也大有改观,学生的学习状态是积极地参与,而不是被动地接受。最重要的是短短的两分钟的兴趣激发,可以让他们在接下来的一节课内高度地集中注意力,对表现充满了欲望。在这些课前活动的推动下,学生的兴趣被激发了,成绩也有较明显的进步。

The only way out of this is to work on yourself, every day.

In school we are taught how to get a job, but no one teaches us how to live in a state of happiness. No one teaches us how important our conscious and unconscious thoughts and associations are.

Is our happiness not worth more than a job?

Yes it is.
