《PEP小学英语》教材是人民教育出版社与加拿大Lingo Media国际集团合作编写的一套全新的小学英语教材, 共8册, 每学期一册, 供小学3~6年级学生使用。本套教材同样是根据小学生在不同年龄阶段的特征和认知特点设计相关的学习内容, 同时根据《国家新课程标准》对于小学阶段英语学习所要达到的一级和二级教学目标, 将学习的重点单词和句型合理地分配到不同年级, 目标明确, 层层递进, 帮助学生在学习英语时达到提高语言运用能力的目的 (杨婷2010) 。

一、《牛津小学英语》与《PEP小学英语》教材分析

本文以三年级下册英语教材为例, 分别从主题的设置、英语基本技能训练的方式、教材内容编排的难易程度、复习评价方式等四个方面分析两套教材的异同。

(一) 主题的设置

《牛津小学英语》3b全书共有12个单元, 其中每5个单元后都有一个复习及检查的单元, 而《PEP小学英语》三年级下册中只设置了6个单元, 在此之外添加了2个复习巩固的单元。在单元主题内容的选择上, 这两套书既有相似点, 也有各自关注的话题。相似的主题有school, family, number, 特殊疑问句及一般疑问句, 这说明两套书的编者都认为这个时段的学生应该了解更多的关于学校、家庭、数字等涉及日常生活的英语词汇。另外, 这两套教材都要求学生学习并掌握基本问句。

这两套教材也有一些不同的主题, 例如, 《牛津小学英语》有几个单元涉及shopping, time, food, a good idea等主题, 编者更侧重贴近学生生活的内容, 而《PEP小学英语》涉及的主题有zoo等, 编者更多考虑学生的兴趣爱好, 并借此扩大学生的词汇量。

总的来说, 这两套小学英语教材虽各有千秋, 但所呈现的主题内容均是小学生日常生活中可以用到的, 贴近生活的。这样的编排会让学生自然而然地学习并运用英语。

(二) 英语基本技能训练的方式

众所周知, 英语的基本技能有四个方面:听、说、读、写。本文以三年级下册英语教材为例, 以三年级学生所要达到的英语基本技能标准为研究对象。

在“听”的方面, 《牛津小学英语》教材主要以听录音识图、认物为主, 或者是听对话模仿跟读;而《PEP小学英语》教材除了以上相似的听力训练外, 还充分发挥了TPR (Total Physical Response) 节奏活动的优势, 将听力与书写相结合, 强化小学生对于单词的掌握。

在“说”的方面, 这两套小学英语教材均以看图说话的练习居多, 模仿句型编造对话比较实用。两套教材中都出现了英文歌曲部分, 满足了低龄小学生喜爱音乐的天性。同时, 《PEP小学英语》教材还添加了“讲故事”的环节, 不仅能够帮助学生复习学过的英语知识, 而且能培养其想象力和创新力。

在“读”的方面, 《牛津小学英语》和《PEP小学英语》教材均以阅读单词、短语及对话为主。在课堂教学中, 教师将主要的教学时间分配在学生的发音及反复朗读上, 不断帮助学生记忆读音。

在“写”的方面, 《牛津小学英语》教材几乎没有出现英语书写及写作部分, 只在小学高年级的一册书中出现段落写作的内容。而《PEP小学英语》教材中, 每个单元都有听写环节, 并有规范的书写练习, 可以帮助学生练习英语书写。

(三) 教材内容编排的难易程度

教材内容的编写要符合学生的身心发展规律, 不能超出其接受范围 (许峰2004) 。

首先是词汇, 两套教材在词汇选择方面略显不同。《牛津小学英语》教材中的词汇量大且较难, 《PEP小学英语》教材中的词汇简单易掌握。例如, 在数词的学习上, 《PEP小学英语》三年级下册教材中仅局限于20以内的数词, 而《牛津小学英语》教材要求学生掌握100以内的数词。

其次是语法, 就整套英语教科书来说, 《牛津小学英语》教材从三年级开始已经涉及时态, 如一般现在时、现在进行时、一般过去式等, 而《PEP小学英语》教材涉及的时态较少, 取而代之的是大量的日常口语。

最后是对话练习, 《牛津小学英语》教材中的图片对话搭配较为简单, 每个环节相匹配的例句不多, 学生缺少模仿的对象;在《PEP小学英语》教材中, 各个板块提供的例句较多, 而且在同一单元中, 句型及词汇的重复率较高, 对学生的学习起到了强化作用。

(四) 复习评价方式

复习评价对于课程教学极其重要, 它能够反映课程实施的效果并影响接下来的课程计划 (王艳娥、陈海蛟2003) 。这两套小学英语教材都设置了复习评价的环节, 但其出现的形式不同。《牛津小学英语》教材中每5个单元后会有一个复习的单元, 其形式简单, 大多是单词及句型的巩固练习, 学生只能在不断的练习中重复所学, 掌握重点;《PEP小学英语》教材中每3个单元后都会有一个复习单元, 其中评价占主要部分, 均以量化的形式出现, 同时每个单元包含Let’s check环节, 帮助学生及时复习并检查每个单元的重点内容。

二、《PEP小学英语》教材的优势

通过对两套英语教材的对比分析, 笔者认为《PEP小学英语》教材比《牛津小学英语》教材更具有实用性, 具体表现为以下三点:

(一) 由侧重兴趣培养到兴趣能力兼顾

《PEP小学英语》教材把培养学生学习英语的兴趣和爱好放在首位, 在本版小学英语教科书的前四册中有大量能够吸引小学生注意力的教学活动, 这有利于使学生在逼真的环境中学习语言和应用语言, 同时教师在实施英语教学的过程中可以组织符合小学生兴趣爱好的活动, 培养学生学习英语的兴趣, 逐渐使学生养成主动学习英语的习惯 (张雪梅2001) 。因此, 教师在小学三、四年级的英语教学中要尽可能多地创设逼真的英语学习情境, 激发学生学习英语的兴趣, 而在进入小学高年级后, 提高学生的语言运用能力和语言知识应与培养学生的学习兴趣齐头并进, 加大对学生基础知识和基本技能训练的分量。

(二) 由能力培养到全面提高

《PEP小学英语》教材在单词和句型教学设计方面, 根据不同年龄学生的特点共分为两大类型。首先在1~4册的教材设计中, 考虑到三、四年级学生刚刚接触英语, 且学生的注意力不能够长时间集中, 教材中设计了很多活动, 以帮助学生反复学习和练习需要掌握和应用的单词和句型, 分环节、分步骤地要求学生进行听说认读和巩固内化, 使学生掌握的词汇量逐渐增多并能够灵活运用句型;而在5~8册的教材设计中, 鉴于学生已经进行了两年的英语学习, 增大教学内容难度, 将单词和句型进行了有效整合, 重在全面提高学生语言学习的基本技能。因此, 小学英语教师应以全面提高学生语言能力为目标设计科学的教学活动, 把握英语知识之间的必然联系, 最终有效实现小学英语教学目标, 全面提高小学生的英语语言运用能力。

(三) 由注重语言学习环境的创设到多方位地进行语言操练

《PEP小学英语》教材提倡在教学过程中, 教师通过创设逼真的语言环境帮助学生学习英语知识和训练语言技能, 这是小学三、四年级尤为重要的英语教学方法;在五、六年级的英语教学中, 教学情境的创设逐渐减少, 教学重点放在全方位、多角度地对句型进行重点练习, 构成了一个多方位的语言操练系统, 对小学高年级的学生来说, 这样的设计比较有挑战性, 能使他们听、说、读、写等方面的能力得到全面的训练, 为语言的应用奠定基础。

三年级学生尚处于儿童时期，他们好活动、爱表现、善模仿，对英语的学习热情较高。随着对早期智力开发的重视，人们对学习英语的兴趣与日俱增，许多家长都希望自己的孩子从小就接触英语，因此，他们中有些已经初步的接触过英语了，也有的是刚开始学，但是无一例外对学习英语有一种很强的好奇心，只是这种初步兴趣极不稳定的，两三个月以后，有些学生便渐渐掉队。我们该如何促使学生持久地保持学习兴趣，为今后的学习打下一个扎实的基础呢？现结合教学经验浅谈以下几点：

一、三年级英语教学状况分析

（一）就教学内容来说，句子的正确认读和使用，音近形近单词和字母的辨认与书写，都影响着三年级学生学习外语的自信心。

（二）就学生本身来说，三年级个别学生还存在顽劣和懒惰倾向，上课爱搞小动作、课下作业完成不及时的坏毛病，学习效率也较差，甚至有些学生出现了厌学情绪。久而久之，两级分化现象日趋明显。

（三）由于家庭教育的不当或缺失，有的家庭对孩子放任和宠爱，学生在课堂上的表现往往是注意力不集中、学习兴趣减退、学习情绪低落甚至厌学、弃学等，难以正常有效地完成学业，久而久之便成为学习困难学生。

二、小学三年级学生学习态度的基本特点

三、三年級英语教学的基本对策

（一）教学手法要出新

1.用思维吸引学生进入情景。在三年级上册第四单元教学中，Whats this？和Whats that？的区分成为一个重点，也是一个难点，学生在what's this和what's that这两个句子运用上混淆不清。教师可以在室内走动，但重点要注意掌控提问者与教师的距离的远近，同时请其他学生做裁判，听一听提问学生有没有用对this或that，在一次次地纠正中，学生不断地比较不断地思考，全体学生的注意力都集中在这两个问句的比较和运用上，最终渐渐明白，物体离自己较近时要用”Whats this？”，物体离自己较远时要用”Whats that？”

2.用多媒体吸引学生进入情景。多媒体集图形、文字、动画、声音等为一体，带给学生强烈的感官刺激，在教学三上第五单元What would you like？一课时尤为有效，学生的学习情绪非常高昂。

3.用插图吸引学生进入情景。翻开我们小学英语教材，一幅幅色彩鲜明、生动形象的插图让人兴趣倍增。它为我们的英语教学提供了丰富的课程资源，也拓展了英语教师的教学视野。我们可以利用插图，进行师生对话问答。让孩子们在插图的帮助下顺风顺水地理解语境，理解句意。教师不断地变幻呈现方式，一定会比传统的单调的讲授有更好的教学效果，更能提高课堂教学的有效性。

（二）易混内容要点化

1.对话教学的点化。三年级学生还不太擅长抽象思维，还不会运用判断、推理等思维形式，对所学知识进行归纳整理。为了提高英语学习的效果，对话教学的点化是我们老师要关注的事。要提高教学效果，教师有必要对一些对话进行适当的点化，这是有效教学很重要的一环。

2.字母教学的点化。从外形上看，拼音字母和英语小写字母有很大的相似之处，许多孩子在背诵拼音表或字母表时非常流畅，但单独指认某个拼音字母或英语字母时会产生混淆，造成认读错误。我们要从读音上进行字母的点化教学，也可以借助儿歌进行点化。

3.形近单词（字母）、音近单词（字母）教学的点化。学生对“Gg”“Jj”两个字母的读音容易混淆，“Aa”、“Ii”、“Ee”、“Rr”这些字母的发音受汉语拼音的影响也很容易混淆。另外Qq、Kk、Ss、Xx、Cc也需要教师进行特别的关注点化。在写法上EFLHTI fgj wvmn WVMN bdpq也很相似，种种音近和形近混淆在起，加大了三年级学生学习英语的难度。教师在教学中应针对这种情况加强这些字母的训练。

课本中词汇教材顺序按单元编排出现，没有形成一定的规律。教师要及时引导学生对这些重点词汇进行整理。

（三）学习目标要激励

1.诊断性评价坚持量体裁衣。诊断性评价是指在教学活动开始前，对评价对象的学习准备程度做出鉴定，以便采取相应措施使教学计划顺利、有效实施而进行的测定性评价。其作用主要是确定学生的学习准备程度，以便教师适当安置学生。但是，在传统的班级授课制里，一个教师要管四、五十位学生，一位英语老师甚至要管五、六个班级，要实行因材施教几乎是不可能的。但是我们可以进行适当的调整，向不同水平的学生提出不同的学习要求。

2.形成性评价坚持去繁就简。形成性评价是对学生日常学习过程中的表现，在教学过程中通过教师观察、座谈、活动记录、问卷调查、学生自评、学生互评等形式对学生的学习行为、学习能力、学习态度和合作精神等进行的持续性评价。诚然，形成性评价能使学生明确学习活动中存在的问题和改进的方向，及时修改或调整活动计划，以期获得更加理想的效果。我们可以适当地去繁就简，并将评价内容量化。

3.终结性评价坚持百花齐放。终结性评价是对一个学段、一个学科教学的教育质量的评价，其目的是对学生阶段性学习的质量做出结论性评价。但是一次又一次的分数失利会使部分学生渐渐丧失了前进的勇气。我们要结合形成性评价，对不同层次的学生的学习成果进行肯定。

“教育，其实是一种唤醒”。德国的著名教育学家斯普朗格曾说过：教育的最终目的不是传授已有的东西，而是要把人的创造力量诱导出来。教师通过启发诱导、激励鞭策，去唤醒学生内在的动力。以灵活多样的教学方法为手段，优化课堂教学策略，以“激趣”为目的，充分发挥学生主体性，培养学生学习英语的兴趣，让课堂“活”起来，使学生“动”起来，我们一定能将三年级学生的学习兴致持续地保持下去，为他们今后的英语学习打下一个良好的基础。

（2）．找对子

教师将20个单词的图片贴在黑板上，另外将20张对应的单词卡扣着放在讲台上，然后让参赛的两组学生逐一上来抽卡片，抽出卡片后先要举给学生们看，然后把黑板上相应的图摘下来并将单词读出来，找对读对的得2分，找对读错给1分，找错了的不得分，卡片全部抽完后，得分多的为优胜。

（3）．字母书写传递比赛

这是一个训练学生书写字母的游戏，以每一排为一组，将全班分成若干组，教师分别发给每组最后一排的学生一张纸片，上面写有一个字母，只允许这个学生看这个字母，在教师说“开始”后，最后一排的学生即用手指把纸片上的字母写在前面学生的背上…这样依次进行下去，最后第一排的学生把所传的字母写到黑板上，传得最快最准确的组获胜。

设计意图：从听歌曲引入，体现语言的交际性，便于学生在真实环境中自如地运用。

4.Assessment: 做作业本本单元第三部分练习。(1)教师讲解题目的要求，指导做的方法。告诉学生如果图中人物所拿之物与录音相符的画笑脸，不符的画哭脸。

(2)再放录音，跟读并互相核对答案，涂色进行自我评价。

设计意图：其实本部分了就是一个课外的拓展性学习，更深层次挖掘学生的学习潜能。
