Warming-up, Pre-reading, Reading, Comprehending, L e a r n i n g a b o u t L a n g u a g e , U s i n g L a n g u a g e , Summing up, Learning Tip, Reading for Fun.

look down upon, come across, refer to, deliver, behave, observe, intend, argue…

He is too yellow to say anything.

This combination of very high density of population, goods and services, and machines, all increasing with almost brutal speed, does account for some really antisocial tendencies in modern urban growth.

Spitting in public places is an antisocial habit.

例如:形容一个人食量大、睡得熟等,很多人会翻译成eat like a pig或sleep like a pig,翻来覆去离不开pig。实际上英语的表达空间层次很多,会利用更多的喻体来表达这些意思,如eat like a horse(食量大);sleep like a log(睡得熟)。

to grow like mushroom

get goose bumps

smoke like a chimney

In 1928 some porpoises were photographed working like beavers to push ashore a waterlogged mattress.

No Room in the Ark。
