一、传统小学英语教学中存在的问题

1.重视知识量, 忽略学习能力

旧版2003年PEP小学英语教材提倡“任务型”教育学习模式是其一大突出特点, 细微的任务将整个教材贯穿, 从而达成以建构主义为核心的教育理念, 虽然旧版教材也注意运用新式的教学方法, 但是整体的教学模式还是过于老旧传统。传统的小学英语教学过分的追求重视小学生知识量的增加, 而往往忽略了学生自身的心态, 学生被动性过大, 导致学生产生抵触情绪, 不能达到良好的教学效果。

2.课堂活动单一乏味, 忽略活动效果

旧版教材中, 课程中的活动过于单一乏味, 教师通过小组教学模式进行教学, 给予学生充分的时间, 然而并没有达成预期的教学效果。学生在活动期间, 总是会出现交头接耳, 无所适从的现象, 太过于注重形式而忽略效果的问题使得这种教学方式的教学效果大打折扣。教学活动的有效性设计成为改革小学英语教育的难点之一。

3.学生学习情绪低落

小学生自制力较差, 心智还未发育健全, 过于死板的教学方式, 教学理念, 再加上传统教育模式下教师与学生之间尴尬的关系, 导致学生学习情绪低落, 学习态度消极。教师一味的传统式教育, 不能及时发现自身问题, 调整教学心态, 使得课堂学习的有效性越来越差。

二、新版PEP小学英语词汇课教学

传统教育的教学效果日益低下, 教育部门在2013年及时推出新版PEP小学英语教材, 从课程的本身, 教师的教育方式等方面出发, 开始改观传统的小学英语教育。新版PEP小学英语课程的编排为先上对话课程, 再上词汇课程, 最后再上读写课程, 这样的教学顺序安排, 颠覆了传统教育点、线、面由易而难的教学模式。从语篇的角度分析, 如此的安排却恰好是顺应小学英语的核心-词汇课程, 在重视词汇课程的基础上, 进行学生读写能力的延伸。

新版PEP小学英语词汇课安排在对话课之后, 读写课之前, 这样的安排使得教学中出现了词汇教学的复现性:在词汇课之前的对话课中, 学生从实际的情景对话中第一次学习到了课中的词汇, 在之后词汇课中, 学生可以把已经初步认知的词汇实际运用于对话课的情景语境, 加深了对词汇的了解, 并且巩固了对话课语法句法的学习。最后的读写课程再一次对词汇的学习进行了一次巩固, 如此一来, 等于进行了三次不同程度的词汇课学习, 对学生的学习巩固起到了最优化的作用。跟传统的小学英语词汇课教学相比, 这样的教学模式更容易让学生接受, 不用在进行传统词汇课的死记硬背, 学生从三个课程段中, 层层递进, 自然而然的学会了陌生的词汇。

三、从“语篇”的角度进行新版PEP小学英语词汇教学

新版的PEP小学英语词汇课程, 虽然有自己的语篇, 但语篇类型过于简短单一, 设定的情景性较低, 不利于学生理解学习词汇。因此, 教师在词汇课教学中, 可以导入已学习的语篇, 例如对话课程核心的Let’s talk语篇, 以观看对话视频, 文本朗读为基础, 在进行词汇课语篇的导入加深学生对词汇用法读法的理解。其次作为新教材对话课程的的导入板块, Let’s try教学模块也是可以最为语篇导入词汇课程的, 该教学模块包含信息量比较完整充足, 词汇课之前复习巩固这一模块, 也可以成为词汇课导入的良好铺垫。最后Let’s learn中, 教师可以将“图文语篇”进行解读转化, 达成语篇导入词汇课的目的。图文转化的类型多种多样, 例如相册式语篇转化为篇章, 情景式语篇转为对话形式等, 找到合适的语篇导入词汇课, 以学生理解力为前提, 进行词汇课教学, 会很大程度的提升其的教学效果及质量。

四、结语

总而言之, 新版PEP小学英语词汇课的教学, 不论是从课堂气氛, 学生态度情绪的角度出发, 还是从新版教材以语篇为教学基础的教学模式出发, 都是为了能让学生更好的理解和掌握词汇, 继而更好的掌握小学英语这门课程, 弱化传统教学模式中学生的负面情绪, 提高小学生对学习知识的兴趣, 跟紧教育改革的步伐, 提升义务教育中学生学习的主动性, 高效性, 培养更加适应社会发展的人才。

摘要:一个小学生英语水平的高低往往以积攒词汇量的多少为评定标准, 因而词汇教学作为小学英语教学最为重要的教学目标之一, 有着极其重要的地位及作用。词汇的认知识别是小学生在英语方面听、说、读、写的基础。旧版PEP教材词汇含量大, 情景设定单一乏味, 教学目标过于知识化, 已不再适用于小学新式的教育模式。因而2012年新版PEP教材的上线, 极大程度的弥补了小学英语教育过于传统化封闭化的教育问题。词汇课程的教学也成为了新版PEP小学英语教学的精髓和重点。

一、PEP小学英语教材教学思考

(1)注重综合技能的培养。以目前新课标修订的新版PEP小学英语教材来看,各版块都强调以培养技能为主,例如:拼写能力、听力能力、口语能力等,还将传统的听说模式进行了改良,转变成听说读写的模式,让小学在学习过程中能够做到读与写,听与写,使语言输入和输出融为一体。当在教授red , yellow , blue and green 这四个颜色单词时,让它融入到句子中,通过特定的语言环境让学生自己表达出来。首先让分别穿着红色,黄色,蓝色,绿色衣服的同学站到讲台上来。指向其中一位同学,Teacher : What do you see? Student: I see a red clothes. Teacher: Great. Now please read after me, I see a red clothes. Red/r/e/d/red. 学生跟读。So, what other things are red? Please write on the notebook. (2)教材内容加入了传统文化。原有的PEP小学英语教材的内容大多是国外的元素,而我国的传统文化元素很少,改革后的教材对这一部分进行了优化调整,在保留国外文化的同时,增添了我国的传统文化,使中西文化之间有了交流,小学生在学习时不仅了解了西方文化,也能够深入了解国内的传统文化,能够强化小学生的祖国意识,并通过中西文化的相互学习,能够形成多元文化意识。例如在学习年味这样一课的时候,西方国家的年是“Christmas,Santa Claus will give children gifts in the day.”而在我国过年是“The Spring Festival, On this day, the whole family reunion dinner, eat dumplings, light firecrackers and give children lucky money”。当学生们学习这样一课时,可以感受到地域的不同,生活方式也就不同了。

二、PEP小学英语教材教学反思

1.在教材的应用方面,小学英语教师应该充当教学设计师的角色。采用科学合理的手段来对学生进行英语的教学,并且时刻对学生的英语学习状况进行统计分析。PEP教材需要教师充分领悟新课标的精神,将学生的生活与学习结合起来,才能满足每个不同层次的学生的需求。

2.培养学生养成自主学习的习惯。英语的学习是一个潜移默化的过程,需要学生不断地进行自我积累才能真正领悟透彻的一门课程。生活的经验能够帮助学生进行语言的组织与构建,因此,教师在利用教材进行教学时,应当挖掘教材内容与生活的联系,结合实际生活对学生进行英语教学,适当的加入情境教学能够带动学生的学习热情。例如,在课堂活动开始时,可以让同学们组织语言用英语表达下自己的课余生活,或者自己见到遇到的新奇事件,有不懂得表白的地方,可以在课后向教师请教。这样可以锻炼学生的口语表达能力,也能扩宽学生的词汇量。

三、结语

现阶段,各地区的小学英语教师在教学中,都是以教材为主来进行教学,忽略了教材与生活的联系,导致学生学习积极性差。本文对PEP小学英语教材教学进行了论述,以立足于当前社会形势为基础进行教学改革,以提升小学生的英语语言能力,从而促进学生的全面发展,达到新课标所要求的教学目标。

1、“预习—听讲—复习”三环学习法 有经验的学生总是在上每节课之前提前把老师要讲的内容认真看一遍,并做好预习记录,标明哪些地方不懂或一知半解、自己认为的重点、难点;在上课的时候,听老师讲课就不会太费力了,同时也能够清楚的知道自己哪些地方预习的不足,自己哪些地方重点、难点抓得不够,在下次预习的时候更能抓住脉络,形成好的方法;上完课并不代表这节课的学习结束了,还要及时复习,强化记忆。在做作业的时候,最好先把今天学习的内容再完整地看一遍,这样,做起作业来,错误率会很低。

一、教材拓展工作的现状

现状之一:由于教学任务重、每位教师担任多个班级的教学工作, 学生人数相对多, 教师没有过多的精力与时间去开发、拓展教材内容。

现状之二:课本设置的内容虽然有弹性, 但多数教师不知如何去拓展教材, 认为其不具体、不明确, 难以操作, 在教学时往往随意应付。

现状之三:教师虽然注重拓展, 但认为拓展仅仅是增加一些单词和句型而已, 拓展内容显得支离破碎, 达不到拓展真正的目的。

现状之四:有的教师不敢放开手脚, “应试为主”, 过分依赖课本, 不是“用教材”而是“教教材”。

小学是学生学习英语的起步阶段, 学生对学习英语有着极强的好奇心和兴趣。但小学生英语学习经历有限, 没有能力自己去阅览课外读物, 视野拓展受到限制。笔者所调查的一个四年级班级的50位学生中参加课外英语兴趣班的学生有6位, 订阅英语课外读物的有3位, 其余41位 (占学生总数的82%) 学生英语学习信息输入量主要来自于课堂, 如果教师只教教材的话, 那么82%的学生只局限于课本的学习。

为了最大程度地培养、延伸学生学习兴趣, 促进学生语言能力的发展, 拓宽英语教学的渠道, 笔者通过对本学期所使用的人教版四年级下册教材内容拓展的开发与研究, 并主要以教师这一重要角色来说明拓展学习内容的具体措施。

二、有效实施教材内容拓展的建议

(一) 教师拓展学习内容的基本步骤

1.分析教材单元主题 (Theme)

一般情况下, 教师可以直接根据教材的单元标题来确定该单元的主题。如, Unit 2的标题为What time is it?该单元的内容都是围绕时间展开的话题, 即如何询问时间、如何描述自己的日常作息时间安排, 所运用的句型为What time is it?/It’s...It’s time for...该单元的标题已经简要地概括出了单元主题, 因此, 教师就可以直接根据该标题来扩展与之相关的内容。

但对教学单元主题的分析和确立不能仅仅依据单元题目, 还要对教材单元所包含的内容, 包括词汇、句型、对话、故事等进行综合分析, 在此基础上最终确定本单元主题。如, 人教版PEP小学英语四年级下册中的Unit 3 Is this your skirt?虽然题目是关于裙子的, 但从单元整体内容分析来看, 是学习各种衣物名称。词汇除了skirt外还包括shirt, jacket, dress, T-shirt, pants, socks, jeans, shoes, shorts等。因此, 围绕这一单元的扩展内容就不应该是仅仅围绕“裙子”的主题进行选择和组织, 而应围绕“clothes”主题展开学习内容的分析。

2.根据单元主题确定子话题 (Topic)

1) 调查研究学生的兴趣爱好, 确定单元子话题

只有当学习内容与学生内在的需要、兴趣相适应时, 学习才能成为学生感兴趣的事情。因此, 教师应该调查、研究学生的普遍兴趣并了解他们所熟悉的人物、事物及环境等因素, 以确定能够激发学生强烈热情和兴趣的话题。

现在的学生是在卡通、网络和游戏等环境里长大的, 他们特别喜欢玩电脑里的QQ, 平时他们的话题也总是围绕QQ:买QQ衣服、QQ聊天、养QQ宠物等。这些都是教师来确定各个单元的子话题的好材料。如:Unit 5 How much is it?确定的主题为“How much...”;Unit 6 At a farm单元主题同样是“At a farm”。那么, 在这些主题下教师该如何扩展开多个话题, 也就是教师该如何创设更多不同的语言学习和运用情景呢?

这时, 多关注学生的兴趣爱好可以有效地解决这个问题。教师可以根据学生平时喜欢玩的游戏———QQ秀商城 (即在QQ商城中购物) 为话题, 并将这一话题略加修改, 确定出与单元主题“How much...”相关的子话题———询问各类的物品价格为多少美元, 让学生徜徉在QQ秀商城内开心快乐地购物的同时以美元为单位来询问价格。 (拓展的词汇有:手提包handbag、帽子hat等;拓展的句子有It’s/They are...dollars等) 同样, 在教学Unit 6 At a Farm时, 也可以根据学生喜欢养QQ宠物这一兴趣, 扩展开多个话题。因为在游戏中, 学生养的QQ宠物需要靠到处打工赚钱生存。那教师就可以在课堂上设置类似的情景, 如:设置QQ宠物去farm (农场) 以打扫卫生赚钱的故事情景。其中拓展的句子有:Room A/B (...) is for horse/lamb..., because it’s big/small...

2) 融合新旧知识, 确定单元子话题

学生不是空着脑袋走进教室的, 在日常生活或先前学习中, 他们已获得了丰富经验与知识。因此, 在新知识的教学设计中, 教师可以从学生的已有经验和知识出发, 寻找新旧知识的结合点, 并围绕该结合点进行联想, 最后确定话题。如:Unit 5 How much is it?的单元子话题确立过程 (图1) 。

右栏图2为笔者根据以上两种途径对Unit 3 Is this your skirt?确定的子话题。 (这一单元的主题为“clothes”)

3.围绕子话题拓展学习内容

在确定了子话题后, 又该如何拓展学习内容?第一步教师呈现这些话题, 从话题中提炼出中心词;之后, 教师再围绕该中心词进行联想, 创设该话题的知识分支;最后实现知识的扩展和补充 (见右栏图3) 。

以上拓展开的学习内容是否能帮助实现单元目标, 我们可以从以下几个方面进行评定。

1) 与单元主题紧密相关

拓展的内容要与单元主题及子话题密切相关, 并且要适宜于小学生学习。从以上示意图中看出, 词汇、句型、背景知识的补充都是紧紧围绕本单元以school为主题, 其中与学校 (school) 这一题目相关的知识有:小学 (Primary school) 、中学 (Middle school) 等。这些内容不仅从题目上看有一定关系, 实际内容也与题目相符, 如其中进一步延伸出与小学生密切相关的小学的内容:Which primary school is very big in Wenzhou?How many classrooms/canteens/teacher’s offices/...are there in...Primary school?

2) 难易程度适中

拓展的内容太容易或太难, 都不能够促进儿童的语言水平。只有提供给学生保持一定难度的内容, 才能够对学生原有的知识结构和理解水平构成一定的智慧挑战。

对于难度太高的拓展内容要做适当的补充提示。如任务:请填充示范句“Do/Don‘t...in the library/...的空白处”。我们采用这个活动的目的在于希望学生能够将li brary等新词汇运用在相应的情景中, 重点是希望学生在填充句子的过程中巩固对library等新词汇的掌握。而学生在这项任务中, 既要找出表示相应动作的词语还要将它用在句型中。看来这项任务对于一部分“学困生”具有一定的难度。因此, 我们可以适当地降低它的难度, 先列出一些可以运用的动词, 如, run (跑) 、sing (唱) 等。这样, 学生就可以容易地将这些动作填入空白处 (Don’t sing in the library.) , 从而完整地表达意思。同样, 我们还可以鼓励学生以“小组讨论”和“合作学习”的方式来降低这一任务的难度。

3) 集趣味性、思想性和教育性于一体

教师在拓展学习内容时的一项重要责任是通过对教材的“再度开发”来保证学生所接触的教材是“安全”而有教育意义的。其中“集趣味性、思想性和教育性于一体”是对拓展的内容“去粗取精”的重要依据。

请看任务:请填充示范句“Do/Don’t...in the library/...的空白处”。在这项任务中, 通过引导学生对空白处的思考, 从而总结出一系列具有良好教育性的建议。可能会有以下建议:Be quiet in the library.Don’t waste food in the canteen等。学生在提出建议的过程中, 同时也对自己进行了思想教育。因此, 教师在选择以活动的形式拓展学习内容时, 还应考虑该活动是否能够集趣味性、思想性和教育性于一体。

4.对筛选改进后的拓展内容进行组织

经过精细筛选后的拓展内容能否成功应用于课堂、充实课堂, 还需经过以下三大调整。

1) 组织和归类不同体裁的内容 (图4)

儿童英语学习内容有多种题材 (如图4) , 其中歌曲、歌谣题材的材料可以组织在一起, 对话材料为一类, 短文小故事类的材料为一类, 最后可以将选定的材料以网络课件的形式加以结构化组织, 便于在教学中运用。例如, 我们可以把拓展出的对话材料归为一类并提炼成几大场景。

家庭生活:用餐、一日起居 (可用于Unit 2 What time is it?)

学校生活:介绍校园、师生间、生生间 (可用于Unit 1Our school, Unit 3 Is this your skirt?)

社会生活:在商店<购物对话> (可用于Unit 5 How much is it?) 、在农场<采访农民> (可用于Unit 6 At a farm)

然后将这3大场景制作成3大网络课件, 便于在教学与其中场景相关内容时反复引用。

2) 将扩展的内容在不同课时循环利用

拓展的内容在第一课时可能仅要求学生初步感知和了解, 在第二课时就需要学生能完全听懂并能模仿表达。但是, 拓展学习的内容不可能仅仅通过一次接触就能使学生产生深刻的印象, 必须通过后续的学习活动反复学习, 循环学习才能逐步掌握。如, 拓展的内容若为歌曲、歌谣体裁, 则可将其安排在该单元教学的每一课时中, 以热身环节呈现, 从而让学生在反复多次的说唱中将拓展的内容掌握。

3) 尊重动态课堂, 适时调整内容

课堂是生动活泼的, 教学中发生的事情并不能在设计时全都预料得到。这就要求教师在精心预设的基础上, 关注学生的学习, 灵活调整预先选取的拓展内容。

笔者在教学本教材Unit 2 What time is it?的课堂上, 就出现了“意外”。这是本单元B部分的第一课时, 在学生学习了新词组get up/go to school/go home/go to bed及理解了句型What time is it?It’s...It’s time to...后, 教师安排的活动是请学生描述自己当天的时间安排表, 所提供的示范句是It’s..., it’s time to..., 目的在于激发学生在填补该句空白处的过程中对更丰富的动词短语的需求, 从而引出do homework/play basketball/take a shower等延伸开的动词短语的教学, 丰富学生的学习内容。

当时操作的步骤是教师先给学生作示范:My day.It’s7:30.It’s time to get up. (由于笔者就住在学校边上, 所以7:30起床也能赶上早上8:00的第一节课) 在笔者刚说完第一句后, 其中一位孩子叫开了:“老师, 昨天才是愚人节, 今天你怎么还骗我们啊?”另一位比较关心老师生活情况的孩子解释道:“老师没有骗你, 因为老师家就在学校旁边, 你不知道吗?”经这两名孩子的一问一答, 大家的话题都转移到讨论老师身上了, 怎么处理?笔者当时没有责怪他们, 而是灵活地调整了拓展内容。笔者没有采用预先的安排, 在课堂上拓展词组do homework/play basketball take a shower等, 而是改变原先的活动 (即请学生描述自己当天的时间安排表) 为“比一比, 谁更了解老师”的新活动。就是要求其中一名学生扮演各科教师来描述他们的时间安排表, 其余学生根据不同的时间安排表来猜测他是哪一位老师, 然后一起评论他的时间安排表是否合理。在这一新活动中, 学生不仅巩固运用了教材上的新知识, 而且在通过了解并讨论他人的不同生活习惯中, 树立了科学安排时间的意识。因此, 在这堂意外课上, 笔者成功地加入了思想教育元素, 丰富了学生的学习内容。

(二) 引导学生参与学习内容的拓展

新课程强调:教师应高度重视教材内容的利用、拓展和开发, 多方面提高学生的能力。但学习内容的拓展, 仅仅靠教师从课外书或其他途径来摄取, 那我们的教学就会陷入另一误区。学生仍旧是被动接受的容器, 学习能力得不到发展。因此, 加强学生参与教材内容的拓展, 不失为培养学生学习能力、促进学生自求发展的一条重要途径。

以下为笔者从实践和理论学习中归纳出的引导学生参与学习内容拓展的主要操作形式:

教师“布白”———学生填补“空白”

教师应依照教学内容适时、适地、适度地设计可发散的内容, 让学生通过独立思考或者合作探究来填补“空白”。下图为笔者根据教材Unit 1 Our school设计的“我来填空白”的活动 (见右栏表1) , 旨在引导学生主动参与学习内容的拓展。

教师可引导学生利用多种工具 (如上网查询、查找字典等) 来拓展更多更广的内容。
