(Virginia Woolf, 1939:506-610) This consensus becomes conclusive through discussion of the critics.In the Anatomy of Criticism, Northrop Frye holds that the biography was"the works of facts"rather than fantasy. (Northrop Frye, 1957:245) Biographical works are usually non-fictional, but fiction can also be used to portray a person’s life.Du Yanyan also holds that although literary biography is based on facts, it is also influenced by many other factors, therefore the fictional element is inevitable. (Du Yanyan, 2009:155) Actually, fiction or exaggeration can be accepted to portray the environment or to describe a scene or to express a person’s emotion if only the important events and the main line of the biography are true.
