How can we get rid of garbage(垃圾)? Do we have enough energy sources to meet our future energy needs? These are two important questions that many people are asking today. Some people think that man might be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest using garbage as an energy source, and at the time it can save the land to hold garbage. For a long time, people buried garbage or dumped(倾倒)it on empty land. Now, empty land is scarce. But more and more garbage is produced each year. However, garbage can be a good fuel to use.The things in garbage do not look like coal, petroleum, or natural gas;but they are chemically similar to these fossil(化石)fuels. As we use up our fossil-fuel supplies, we might be able to use garbage as an energy source.Burning garbage is not a new idea. Some cities in Europe and the United States have been burning garbage for years. The heat that is produced by burning garbage is used to boil water. The steam that is produced is used to make electricity or to heat nearby buildings. In Paris, France, some power plants burn almost 2 million metric tons of the cities garbage each year. The amount of energy produced is about the same as would be produced by burning almost a half million barrels of oil.Our fossil fuel supplies are limited.Burning garbage might be one kind of energy source that we can use to help meet our energy needs. This method could also reduce the amount of garbage piling up on the earth.6.What two problems can man solve by burning garbage? Passage two

It is all very well to blame traffic jams, the cost of petrol and the quick pace of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming terrible. You might tolerate the rude and in considerate driver, but nowadays the well-mannered drivers is the exception to the rule.Perhaps we need a campaign calling for “Be Kind to Other Drivers”, otherwise, it may get completely out of hand.Road politeness is not only good manners, but good sense too.It takes the most cool-headed and good-tempered of the driver to resist the temptation to revenge when treated rudely. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards relieving the tension of driving.A friendly nod or wave in response to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of goodwill.Tolerance is absolutely necessary in modern traffic condition. But such politeness is very rare today. Many drivers nowadays don’t even seem to recognize politeness when they see it.A veteran driver, whose manners are faultless, told me that it would help if motorist learn to drive correctly into traffic streams without causing the total blockages 拥堵 that may give rise to bad temper.Unfortunately, modern motorists can’t even learn to drive, let alone be well-mannered on the road.Years ago the experts warned us that the car-ownership explosion would demand a lot more give-and-take平等互让 from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.21.According to the passage, troubles on the road are mainly caused by ______.A.people’s attitude towards driver

What do we mean by a satisfactory standard of living? Obviously, it must include the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter. To get these necessities on regular basis, a person must have a reliable income. But we have other needs which would probably also be included as basic, such as health and education facilities. We may think of all these as our needs.Yet most of us would be far from satisfied if we had nothing more than these which are supplied for us.We all enjoy extra income to spend on things like books, sports or hobbies.Sometimes we save some of this extra income to pay for future expense of this type on holidays. So we must add our wants to our basic needs. Our standards of living is the degree, to which these needs and wants are satisfied. But as time goes on, what we think of as our basic needs changes.Twenty years ago a television would have been a luxury, and still is in some countries now.Even now we cannot say it is a need in the same sense as food, clothing and shelter.Yet if most of the people of a country have one, it comes to be accepted as a need.It is possible therefore to have food, clothing and shelter and still be poor by the standard of our own country.26.What we need in life is divided into ______ according to this article A.the basic necessities and luxury B.many kinds of need such as food, clothing and houses C.four groups the basic necessities, luxury, reliable income and future expense D.the basic necessities and reliable income 27.A person who gets the basic necessities must ____ according to the writer.A.have a reliable income

1.Who are they talking about?

2.Where is the coffee shop?

3.Which girl are they talking about?

Do you want to learn London English?

31.It________outside.You’d better take an umbrella with

you.

A.rainsB.is rainingC.rained D.has rained

28.—Which of the two T-shirts will you take?

—I’ll take____, one for my brother, the other for myself.

A.eitherB.neither

C.bothD.all

33.—Susan has bought a large house with a swimming pool.

—It____be very expensive.I never even dream about it.

A.mustB.might

C.can’tD.shouldn’t

37.—I can’t go with you today. There will be a test tomor-

row.

—______.Maybe next time.

A.It doesn’t matter

B.My pleasure

C.I don’t think so

D.Sorry to hear that

The Secrets of Happiness

81.____Money and success alone do not bring lasting (长久的) happiness.Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

82.____Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future—for example, getting into college or getting a good job—that we fail to enjoy the present (现在) .You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends.83.____

Another secret to leading a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems. Many people experience this dancing or playing a sport, such as skating or soccer.84.____

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others.According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to help others.85.____You can help a friend with his or her lessons, go shopping to buy food for your family members, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

I very like Mother’s Day.I very love my mother. His work is very busy;三是语法错误严重, 如in that day、houseworks、best wish to you等;四是常识性错误多, 如中秋节写成10月15、中秋节是为了纪念屈原等;五是忽视写作策略的渗透, 在训练书面表达时要提醒学生注意仔细审题、明确要求、列出要点、寻求思路、草拟提纲、确定开头、选词得当, 要求学生用自己最有把握的语句表达出来, 避免使用复杂的长句。

1) 以上两个节日的时间、含义 (家人团聚的日子) 及主要活动;
